A Quiet Dashain at Ama Ghar

As we are observing the traditional period of mourning for Anjana, we did not have a full celebration of Dashain this year. However, each of the small children received new clothing and small amount of money and we all enjoyed the visits from our grownup Ama Ghar children, who came home for the holiday.

A special treat was the visit from Shankar, our alumni who is a chef in Kathmandu – he made us pizzas and cookies in our Ama Ghar oven, which was designed by Ty Uncle, who helped the boys to build the oven during his last visit. Every time we eat our delicious baked goods, we think of you, Ty Uncle!

Our celebration was very low key but we remember all the important lessons of Dashain and Tihar – loving each other, loving ourselves and even loving our dogs… these lessons seem even more valuable as we are drawn closer together by tragedy.
