Children
At Ama Ghar Children's Home, just 18 kilometers south of Kathmandu, we provide a home and family to 45 at risk children ages 4 to 18.
Full Board, Education and Health Care – Support a Child at Ama Ghar
Support children living full-time in our loving and eco-friendly children’s home. $166 a month provides a child with healthy food, school tuition, uniforms, books and supplies, medical, dental and eye care.
Supporting Our Community – Scholarships for Boys and Girls

Sarita
Sarita, age 9, came to us from Western Nepal and is a petite new student in Class 1. She seems to be very observant but quiet. She can focus on Lego for hours and is great at pick up sticks because she is very patient.
Renuka
Renuka, age 8, came from Eastern Nepal not far from the valley and has started in Upper Kindergarten. She is quiet and watchful but loves Lego and Tae Kwan Do. She showed excellent concentration when playing pick up sticks.
Rojina
Our new little Rojina, age 8, came to Ama Ghar with her brother from Kathmandu and is in Lower Kindergarten. She is a very definite little girl and has already put herself into a leadership role. We find that siblings adjust more easily when new to Ama Ghar, as they have each other for support and continuity.
Rijan
Rijan, age 10, came to us from the Kathmandu area with his little sister Rojina. He is very small in stature but we can see he is going to be a big personality. We are pleased that he has been assessed to go into Class 2, as his previous schooling was very limited.
Buddha Sano
Now that we have two Buddha’s we call this young man Sano Buddha, meaning “small Buddha”. He is Bina’s brother, who we found and were able to and get him to Ama Ghar in October, 2021. Saraswoti (S)
Saraswoti, age 8, came with her older sister Aarti from the Terai. She is adjusting well in Class 2 and spends hours creating large Lego rooms and playing with the doll house. She follows her older sister’s direction.
Aariti
Aariti, age 11, and her younger sister came to us from the Terai. She was discovered by Ama Ghar alumna Sabita, who is now a Social Worker. Sushan
Sushan is our first little chubby boy. He continues to enjoy all sorts of active sports and loves the new trampoline. He is a loving brother and keeps his eye on little Ganga Maya. He is smart and cute and he knows it.
Bina
Bina is doing well and is a happy girl since we were able to get her younger brother into Ama Ghar. She has taken charge of him and is helping him with his homework. Ganga Maya

Roshan
Although Roshan is a happy and busy boy in Class 7, he definitely does not like having his picture taken! We try to catch him in a smile on camera if we can. Ramit
Ramit is in Class 6. He is a smart and observant boy with a very tender, sensitive side. He has adjusted nicely in our “lockdown school” during the pandemic and keeps busy making things and playing sports with his brothers. He is Mr. Cool and loves to wear sunglasses!
Akriti
Akriti, who is in her second year of a Travel & Tourism Bachelor’s, is interested in the business side of travel and tourism. She was home during lockdown to help with teaching, but is now happy to be back to school. She is growing into a mature young lady with purpose.
Sabitra
Sabitra, who is in Grade 4, is like a wise little owl – she watches and listens. She is quiet in general but animated in games, dance and singing. She loves to read and does very well in school. And she always, always has a smile!
Kushal
Kushal, who is in Class 4, is the older brother of Sushan. He has a ready smile, but also a serious side. He works hard on his homework and does well in school. He is an avid soccer, badminton and table tennis player… now that he’s tall enough for the table!
Akshar
Akshar, who is in Class 5, is a very active boy and is our “dust bug”. His clean clothes last about five minutes – if there is dirt, he will find it! He is a giggly, funny boy with lots of energy. He enjoys his time on the computer and is very competitive and a little stubborn. ... Read More
Pooja
Pooja is our most studious, serious girl. She is in Class 8 and completes all of her school work before indulging in any fun activities. She is a very good role model to her younger sisters, who enjoys polishing nails, hanging out with her sisters, talking and dancing. She is always focused so is generally good at all sports. ... Samjana T.
Samjana has been very active at home during lockdown. She will finish her Bachelors this summer and we expect her to be very successful now that tourism has returned to Nepal.
Sunita
Sunita is a sweet, smiling girl who loves to spend time helping in the kitchen – she may be our next chef. She is in Class 9 and doing well in school. We are proud of her as she started school late and has caught up to her proper level. Sunita is very creative, too.
Rosina
Rosina is our leader in Class 10 and is doing well with online classes. A smiling, quiet and gracious young woman, she has gone through her teenage years without the attitude we see in others. She works hard at Tae Kwon Do practice and is a delight to have in any group.
Buddha
Buddha, who is in Class 7, is a serious quiet boy, but he does join his brothers in their rambunctious games. He has gained new focus on his studies and is improving in school, with the stern support of his older sister Rosina. He enjoys art and sports, with table tennis being his favorite.
Saraswoti
After years of searching, we finally found Saraswoti’s grandparents and have been able to reintegrate her to live with them. She has always wanted to return to the village. Leela
Leela is a very smart and astute little girl but she has a lazy streak when it comes to her homework in Class 4. She has very good language skills, so she is still doing well in her studies. Maya
Maya and her sisters have discovered YouTube and love to watch tutorials. Art is one of her special talents and interests. She’s also a good organizer and next year she will be in charge of design and creation of the mandalas for our holiday celebrations. She is in Class 9.
Laxmi
Laxmi is enjoying her second year of Bachelors study and has moved into one of the Youth apartments to live independently, with Akriti and Aruneema. She is adjusting but misses home and the wonderful meals that were prepared for her by her aunties.
Samjana S.
This Spring Samjana will take her Board Exams and by Fall she needs to decide what type of training she wants to take. This is a difficult time for our teenagers, when they have to make choices about their future. She will also be re-integrating to live with her mother.
Jenuka
Jenuka has completed her Bachelors and is now considering taking the test to start training as a Police Inspector. She is also on the Ama Ghar Board and is very helpful with our photography and videos. She will do well in anything she chooses.
Jeevan
Our mischievous Jeevan, now in Class 6, is slowing down and paying more attention in class. He is a smart boy and our use of video and documentaries at school has helped him focus. He is still Mr. Energy and is spends most of his time on the sports field.
Nirjala
Nirjala, who is in Class 6, is a smart and capable young girl. She is very matter of fact and wise for her young years. She makes statements like “If I were Bonnie Auntie I would do this.” She has a quiet, reserved sense of humor and engages in all of our activities, showing good leadership qualities.
Alisha
Day by day, Alisha is improving in her speech and self confidence now that she is in Class 6. She is always in the center of activity and seldom seems sad or upset. She enjoys fantasy and loves stories. It’s easy to get a smile or a silly grin from Alisha – she just takes life as it comes! ... Read More
Badiram
Badiram is in Class 5 and continues to excel at everything. He’s full of energy with a ready smile, especially if there’s a camera around. We wonder if he is destined for movie stardom! He has taken the COVID lockdown in stride, enjoying playing games with his friends.
Ram
Ram is in Class 9 and is doing much better with school and socialization. He loves to work and save his money, and he regularly helps with the gardening and various cleanup projects. He is our soccer goalie and enjoys table tennis and badminton, too.
Laxman
Laxman has struggled in school but he is doing better socially and continues his regular counseling sessions. He has become an excellent badminton player and is very competitive. He is growing and seems to get taller by the day – he is almost as tall as Bonnie Auntie and he’s only in Class 7.
Jamuna
Jamuna is the younger of our twin girls. She’s a very smart and confident participant in Grade 7. She enjoys everything, especially crafts, badminton and Tae Kwon Do. She takes on anything and seems to be good at all of it! She consistently has some of the best grades in school.
Ganga
Ganga is doing very well in Class 7. She is improving her self esteem and all of her abilities. She stays busy with her peer group and twin sister drawing, painting, knitting and beading, and she loves to curl up with a book.
Ajaya
In November, everyone returned to school and Ajaya was happy to see his friends.This year will be challenging as they try to make up for lost time in Classes. Sabin
Sabin is growing into a very responsible young man, now that he has gotten through his challenging teenage attitudes. He continues to be very musical and he took some guitar lessons during vacation. He is doing better in school now that he is more focused. He is a good supportive older brother.
Rekha
Still our champion reader, Rekha has gotten through the whole Nancy Drew series and is working on the Hardy Boys – she likes mystery and solving problems. She just had a big growth spurt and is now a tall girl. She enjoys her pen pal letters and always decorates her letters beautifully, as she is very creative.
Santosh
Santosh is in Class 12 in Business this year. He is very focused on wanting to be a fitness trainer and goes to the gym daily after school. He is an avid chess player who claims he can beat his smart big sister Laxmi blindfolded – he doesn’t lack confidence!
Bhupendra
Bhupi has gotten back to classes but is struggling with his new subjects.All the kids have a lot to catch up after months of online classes. He is working hard and will improve. Aruneema is back to her Bachelor’s Classes but has lost some time due to Covid. In April she moved to the Patan apartment to learn to live away from Ama Ghar group. Rupa
Rupa is in her third year of a Bachelor’s in Lab Technology and enjoying independent living with her sisters in a Youth Apartment. This is typical, as Rupa has always been a happy and satisfied girl. She continues to be focused and serious about her future.
Prerana (Po-Po)
Po-Po completed her Aviation Courses, but was unable to get a job in Aviation due to the slowdown in tourism. Now she is taking Japanese language classes and training to be a caregiver for a job in Japan. This should work out well, as she has always been a caretaker with her younger brothers and sisters.
