Although the children of Ama Ghar work hard at school and athletics, they also are exceptional in their willingness to work hard to help finish their new home. They have painted walls and doors, created art projects to decorate the rooms, painted their beds and helped Uma to sew up new cushions. And now they’re busy finishing up our outdoor landscaping.
Mostly that involves cleaning the site of brick and concrete rubble that’s been there over five months. Our latest and biggest effort is to move the huge mountains of dirt left above ground where the contractors dug the hole for the biogas… the children and staff moved nine full trucks in one day!
We are rushing to get things completed before the big monsoon rains, and the children are learning a life lesson about completing any task that is given – they took this to new heights the other day by even working in the rain to get the job done. Luckily, this rain is warm and, as you can see by the photos, this work was also play.
