On April 22, Ama Ghar hosted our first wedding. Although three of our other grown Ama Ghar children have married, this was the first ceremony to take place in our Ama Ghar home.
Our lovely Menuka, who was the first child to join Ama Ghar in 2001, married Arjun Pun, a very nice young man from the village of our house father Tan Bahadur. Since Ama Ghar is considered to be Menuka’s “Mother’s house” we hosted the reception traditionally given by the bride’s family. It was wonderful for Menuka that although her mother is deceased, some members of her mother’s family were able to attend.
As always, everyone pitched in to decorate and make a lovely halo of white net and colorful spring flowers to frame the traditional Bride and Groom seats. Over 150 friends and well wishers attended – it was another landmark day for Ama Ghar and a loving celebration to start Menuka and Arjun in their life together.
