Rice harvest at Ama Ghar is an annual event, and with so many people to help – kids, staff and visitors – the work is done in a few hours. Rice planting and harvesting is an important part of Nepali culture and a good lesson for the children about where their food comes from. Of course, they also work in our vegetable garden, so they’re becoming experts!

We do major house cleaning before the holidays, so our guests are busy with that, too. David has been giving piano lessons, Matt is helping with home repair and Carol keeps the little ones busy. They are a great help as half of the staff are on vacation and the children like the extra attention, especially the young ones. Our past Ama Foundation Board Member and fantastic Berkeley volunteer Barbara Moffat’s visit was short but she kept everyone busy with painting projects.

With so many new little ones, the days are filled with activities and many hours on the swings, in the sand box and making art with mud. And we are constantly entertained by the boys break dancing and the new songs the little ones have learned at school.
