We often write about the accomplishments of our children, but we are remiss in not writing more often about our amazing Ama Ghar staff. These wonderful aunties and uncles function provide the same kind of warm love and care that the children would receive from their own Nepali family. Today we’ll tell you about our uncles – but stay tuned for an even longer blog about the fantastic Ama Ghar aunties!
As House Fathers, Bhesh and Tan Bahadur give the boys the loving discipline and guidance that they would get from their own fathers if they could, and they serve as male role models for all the children. And they are big “softies”, too – we’ve noticed that the girls can wrap these two gentlemen around their little fingers, as in any father-daughter relationship!
Bhesh and Tan Bahadur both perform many other duties as well, with Bhesh serving as administrator, helping with accounting, paperwork and all the details that crop up daily when dealing with the government and Tan Bahadur giving haircuts and often traveling far and wide to help the children connect with their relatives. Both Fathers play sports, help with homework and serve as confidants and mentors for boys and girls alike.
Pashupati is our Ama Ghar gardener, and he does a remarkable job as a one-man botanical team, keeping the grounds looking beautiful while maintaining our organic garden, which provides children and staff with daily supplies of nutritious veggies. All the marigolds that we use for making mallas for festivals are carefully nurtured on-site by our hard-working Pashupati as well.
