I stayed in Ama Ghar for 2 months (April-May 2024) as an opportunity I had to leave during my high school year (in Geneva, Swiss). I was leaving with a bit of apprehension, I didn’t know if I would get along with the kids. However, I was soon reassured once I was there.
As I wasn’t 18 yet, I was really integrated during all my visit, which was a real chance to get to know them and learn about their daily life. I became close with the kids with whom I shared almost all my time and all my meals! They included me very fast by playing and talking with me as well as teaching me some Nepali words, being very patient…
Once their holidays were over, I was very happy to accompany them and look for at school, then to help them with their homework. I had longer discussions with the older girls as they had better English, which was very nice to discover our differences and similarities as teenagers. It took me a bit longer to get in contact with the teenage boys, maybe a bit shyer, but with whom I finally had a very great time. I also appreciated very much my time passed with the staff, with whom I could learn to cook their delicious meals and to take note of their recipes. It was also super nice to share some moments with the older, especially Sandes and Manzu, who made me discover a bit more of Katmandu and with whom I spent some great adventures.
This experience has been really incredible for me, and I hope to see them soon. I would also like to thank them for the time they spent with me, their kindness, generosity, sense of humour and the list goes on, remains engraved in my memory.
I love you all,
Bérénice Klein
