At Ama Ghar, we celebrate Christmas as a season of giving back and sharing love with our worldwide family. Most of the children come from Hindu or Buddhist backgrounds, but they enjoy the spirit of the holiday and the traditions and rituals we have developed over the years at Ama Ghar.
Traditionally, we have bought plain cookies from a German bakery in Kathmandu and decorated them the day before Christmas – but of course, this year, we could bake our own in the bio-fueled oven! So on Christmas Eve we enjoyed cookies and cocoa.
On Christmas morning, the children were surprised by our Swiss friend Alain, who dressed as Santa and gave each of the children a stocking filled with candy and small gifts. We wish you could have been here to celebrate with us, but we held you in our hearts and thoughts as we counted our many Christmas blessings…
