Saturday, November 12 was the happiest day yet in the history of Ama Ghar – the Grand Opening party for our beautiful new home in Godavari. We are very proud of our new home, built through the generosity of our donors with sustainable power and waste systems and traditional Nepali design.
On Saturday, we welcomed over 400 people to a fun-filled celebration. In addition to the adult friends, neighbors and dignitaries who were invited, the Ama Ghar children invited their school friends, local children and children from other Homes around the Valley. There was a children’s tent especially for then, which offered face painting, a Lego table, a Play Doh table and lots of fun activities.
The program opened with a welcome from Founder Shrawan Nepali who dedicated the day and the home to Ama Tika Basnet, our inspiration. The program also included words from Shekhar Silwal, Treasurer of the Ama Ghar Board, and Bonnie Ellison, Country Director, who honored the Ama Ghar staff for their contributions. The rest of the program was designed for pure entertainment, with music and dancing by the Ama Ghar children.
The program was followed by a delicious meal and lots more singing, dancing and drumming into the night. It was a very happy and auspicious day for all – we wish all our friends around the world could have been there!
