    Ama Ghar

The work at Ama Ghar is 100% supported by donations and the generous time of our staff and Board of Directors at both the Ama Foundation and at Ama Ghar.

Donations support three critical functions: Caring for the children at Ama Ghar, maintaining our eco-friendly home, and paying our dedicated staff.

    The Children

We provide a home, family, and education to 50 at-risk children ages 3 to 22. Our vision is that all Ama Ghar children share a profound sense of home and family; that they live together as family and even come home to visit for the holidays after they grow up and leave the Ama Ghar home. While education is our priority, it is not the only factor contributing to a child’s success. A stable home and genuine love are essential. The children themselves are shining examples of success. The Home

Ama Ghar, our “Motherly Home” in Godawari, Nepal, is not a “children’s home” in the institutional sense, but a place where the children grow up as part of a larger family, knowing that they are safe, cared for, and valued. The permanent home for Ama Ghar, funded by private donations, was completed in 2010. The design of our home is based on traditional Nepali architecture, but we use solar power, recycled waste water and bio-gas to make our home as sustainable as possible. The Staff

We could not do what we do at Ama Ghar without our incredible Nepali staff. Our staff is responsible for all of the day-to-day activities, from getting the kids ready for school and managing playtime to cooking, cleaning, and shopping for the home. They also support and guide the children emotionally, take care of all medical needs, and do everything with care, patience, and love. Changing the life of a child is a rewarding job, but it is incredibly difficult too. Learn more about our resilient and compassionate staff.
