Singing for Ama Ghar!

“Those who wish to sing
Always find a song”
— Norwegian proverb

Our wonderful Ama Ghar supporter in Edinburgh, Scotland – Jane Schonveld – sent us a story about the earthquake fundraiser she gave in a friend’s home… just goes to show you that fundraisers don’t have to be fancy – but can be heartfelt and fun. Thanks, Jane and friends!

Here’s her story:

“I wanted to contribute in some way after the Nepal earthquake and I noticed that it was no longer in the news. I also wanted to give to something I could feel a personal connection with. I found out about Ama Ghar and felt it was the right project.

One Ama Ghar volunteer had written that “the children remain children” at Ama Ghar, and that “it felt like a family”. This helped me make up my mind. I asked a friend to let us use her big sitting room, and invited people I knew who liked to sing to come to a fund raising evening. On that evening I told them a little about the situation in Nepal and about Ama Ghar.

People gave very generously – putting their money into a watering can I had bought in Nepal – and we had a lovely evening singing songs we all knew. It felt like a very enjoyable way to raise funds. We look forward to hearing about how the newest children are getting on.”    — Jane Schonveld
